Beginning in 2023, new phone subscribers in Merrick and wider Nassau County will be issued a new area code to go with their number, per a group whose job it is to oversee the use of these codes.
The North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA) released a memo revealing the 363-area code would commence being assigned on January 20, 2023. Only new phone numbers will be given the 363-area code so those that have already been issued the 516-area code will not have their phone numbers affected.
Flyer printing services are used by various organizations including utility companies to communicate with their clients.
It was in January of this year that NANPA’S request to the New York State Public Service Commission was approved. NANPA has calculated that the supply of 516 phone numbers could be exhausted in late 2023.
Adding a second area code within a region is known as area code overlay and has become the go-to solution when the need for new phone numbers arises. Although calling outside one’s own area codes generally necessitates adding a 1 in front of the number, calls between 363 and 516 will be local and will not require this.
According to the Public Service Commission the recent dramatic rise in demand for new phone numbers has occurred as a result of growth in cell phones and tablet computers.
