New flag display planned to honor local veterans

The Merrick Avenue Middle School (MAMS) will open a Flag Field of Honor in November as a sign of respect for veterans.

The community and the MAMS facility will inaugurate a new tradition with the installation of a Flag Field of Honor. Flag sponsors will pay $20 for a single flag, or $50 for three flags. Sponsorship proceeds will go to veterans Honor Flight Long Island and to the Bellmore-Merrick Community Cupboard. A 3” X 5” memento flag will be given to each sponsor.

MAMS Principal Katelyn Dunn commented:

"We hope that the members of the MAMS community will join us in creating our first field of honor by honoring your friends and/or family members who have served our country and sponsor a flag."

Poster printing services are an effective means of informing a community about a special project or fundraising event.

To assist in bringing the Flag Field of Honor to fruition, the Mack family, who have a member in the seventh grade at Merrick Avenue Middle School, are handling storage as well as assembling materials and supplies for the project.

Those wishing to sponsor a flag or learn more about the Flag Field of Honor may contact Jessica Mack at 516-721-4175 or at jessimack@gmail.com.

The flags will be on display from November 5 through December 10 as a special tribute to local veterans.
