The various communities within Hempstead have their donation locations and times set and residents are invited to drop off their donations at any one of them. The drive will benefit Baxter’s Pet Pantry.
Pet supplies are often among the first expenses to be cut when a household faces difficult financial straits. In some cases, people have felt they had to give away their pets because they can no longer afford to take care of them.
Brochure printing services are often employed to supply information to the public via public libraries.
Donald Clavin, Town of Hempstead Supervisor, made the following statement on the town’s website:
"The Town of Hempstead is proud to partner with Long Island Cares in holding this pet food collection drive so that we can assist pet owners with essential items and help keep pets in their homes. We encourage all residents to assist by dropping off food, toys and other supplies to our drop-off locations."
In Merrick, the drop-off location is the Merrick Golf Course Clubhouse at 225 Clubhouse Road, where donations can be left between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Residents are advised to call before bringing their donations so as to ensure a safe transfer. The phone number is (516) 868-4650.
Donations will be collected through May 31.
