Recently, a reception was held for ‘Preserve-ing Nature’ at the Merrick Public Library.
It is an art show of 29 watercolors and oil paintings created by Theodora Zavala and Suzie Alvey, depicting scenes at the Norman J. Levy Preserve and of several landscapes on Long Island. The two artists have been painting together for over a decade and specialize in painting portraits and landscapes.
Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney and Councilman Gary Hudes from the Town of Hempstead, along with Town of Hempstead Supervisor, honored them at the reception. Also helping out was Angela Carpone of the Merrick Library.
The library has many other activities for adults, including a mystery lovers’ book discussion group and a monthly book discussion group
A special trip of the Lower Hudson Valley took place on July 22, including a tour of the Storm King Art Center followed by a trolley ride through its hills, woodlands, and fields covering 500 acres. Lunch will be in Nyack, after which there will be a visit to the Edward Hopper House, home to the artist and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
