Merrick football stars prepare for annual competition

The best youth players on Long Island will compete against New York City athletes in The Liberty Challenge football event next month.

Flag Day is celebrated in Merrick each year with a daylong event held by Long Island Elite Football that includes food, music, and football, as well as much more. This year the event will officially begin with a ceremony to honor all men and women police and military members.

The fun fair preceding the game will include music, contests and raffles, and live entertainment. Fans can get their favorite players’ signatures at the autograph sessions, and enjoy the offerings from the food vendors.

Food and merchandise vendors are still being sought. All interested parties that would like to prepare their booth and begin banner printing for the big day have until June 1 to submit their application. Contact Long Island Elite Football at 516-495-9835 for more information.

The 2018 Liberty Challenge will be held at Long Island University Post at the Bethpage FCU Stadium located at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville. It will take place on June 14, with gates opening at noon at the ceremony beginning at 3:00 pm. The first game begins at 3:30 pm and the final game has an estimated start time of 6:30 pm.

Admission wristbands are $10 each and can be purchased at the gate. The fun fair is held outside of the stadium and open to all. Raffle tickets will be available at the fair and cost $5 each or $20 for five.
