The Town of Hempstead has recently announced that the New York Department of Environmental Conservation has granted permission for the dredging of Sea Dog Creek.

A statement issued by the Town of Hempstead explained that depth conditions and an existing shoal in a low tide made dredging Sea Dog Creek a critical operation.
Donald X. Claven Jr, supervisor for the Town of Hempstead, stated:
“Gaining the DEC's blessing to dredge at Sea Dog Creek provides the Town of Hempstead the opportunity to improve a waterway that is a key transportation hub for commercial and recreational boaters. These upgrades are necessary to prevent accidents and promote safer conditions for boaters."
Experts anticipate that the channel will require approximately 80,000 yards of sand drained to ensure the channel is safe for watercraft to navigate even in low tides.
