The 2nd annual Hot Dog Dash is slated to take place this July in East Meadow.
A fundraiser for Family Residence and Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE), this is a 5K race open to people of all ages and all abilities. Participants can run, walk or roll. There will also be a 1K fun run. Fees for the 5K are $30 in advance and $35 on the day and $20 or $25 for the fun run. Participants are also encouraged to get pledges from friends and family.
There will be several awards handed out during the day including those for the top Male and Female, Top Male and Female age categories (which range from 13 and under, up to 80+) and Top Fundraiser with a minimum of $750 in pledges to qualify. All of those who complete the circuit will receive a Hot Dog Dash headband; there are also prizes for fundraising levels.
After the race, there will be a barbecue, a business expo and games; participants will receive a voucher for a hot dog or hamburger.
FREE is an organization that provides services to those with brain injuries, mental illness and intellectual disabilities. This event will likely attract many participants from Merrick, and local printing services companies are often asked to provide bibs and pledge Forms for such events.
