Freeport Memorial Library, located near the town of Merrick, has recently completed the renovation of its west wing and will be holding several events as part of its rededication of the library this weekend.
No doubt the Library is turning to a variety of printing services to let those in the community become aware of this special day, and to encourage as many people as possible to take part in the planned activities.
The new motto of the library is ‘A World of Diversity’ and there will be many programs throughout the day to promote that motto. One of the activities will be for children below grade six to decorate a flag from their country of origin and display it on the library’s map of the world. At the same time, those students in grades 7 - 12 will be creating crafts from different cultures.
The library was established in the late 1880s but did not get its own building until 1924. The celebration will include a presentation of the history of the building, including two major expansions and the current renovation.
It all takes place this Saturday, April 12, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. At 1:00 pm, there will be a concert of a mix of string music from America, including Celtic, bluegrass, acoustic rock, and jazz. This will be followed by a birthday celebration of the Library as it celebrates its 90th year.
