The inaugural ‘One Voice, One Message, One Run’ 5K Run/Walk will be hosted by the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District this month.
Student representatives from each of the four high schools and two middle schools in the district worked together to create the walk, which is designed to unite the community in a common goal.
Proceeds from the run will benefit pediatric cancer research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Refreshments and light fare to help the runners along the route have been donated by numerous businesses in the community. Hand sanitizers and lip balm will be handed out by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
One of the organizers of the event and a school psychologist in the district, Dr. Joseph Netto, commented that the support from the community has been overwhelming and greatly appreciated by the Bellmores and Merricks, who have also displayed their giving character. Posters and Banners created by local Print companies are most likely displayed extensively throughout the community.
The race will begin at the Grand Avenue Middle School, continue its way to the Merrick Avenue Middle School, and then return to the school once more.
