What's Happening in Merrick, NY…

Farmers market to return

Merrick residents can once again enjoy full access to the Cedarmore Corporation’s seasonal Farmers’ Market.

In partnership with Nassau County Legislators Debra Mulé and Kevan M. Abrahams, the Freeport-based non-profit Cedarmore Corporation will operate its farmers’ market at the Baldwin LIRR station on Saturdays from 11:30 am – 3:30 pm, weather permitting. Local young people are employed to work the market each year.

An array of locally grown vegetables are available, as well as organic honey and farm-fresh eggs. The majority of the produce offered for sale is picked fresh that morning.

A supply of business cards, as well as a list of products and prices, is frequently on hand for individual suppliers at a farmers’ market to pass out to shoppers.

The 2021 market is presented in conjunction with Sanitary District No. 2, Nassau County’s Department of Human Services, Office of Youth Services, HempsteadWorks Career Center, and New York State FreshConnect Program. The non-profit also acknowledges the support of Dorothy Goosby, Town of Hempstead Senior Councilwoman; and Christopher Carini, a Town of Hempstead Councilman.

Online orders can be made on Thursdays for pickup on Saturdays. The market accepts Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers and FMNP WIC checks. Senior FMNP vouchers are disseminated by the Nassau County Office for The Aging.

The market season began last Saturday and will continue through October 30.
