Carnegie, located in Rockville Centre just a short distance from Merrick, recently announced that it has become a Certified B Corporation. No doubt the company is turning to a variety of printing services to let the community become aware of this recognition as the first textile and wall covering to earn it and what it means.
The third party non-profit organization, B Lab, performs a rigorous assessment in such areas as environmental and social performance. The companies that show they can use their power or business acumen to solve problems in these areas become designated as Certified B Corporations. There are over 950 such certified companies in more than 60 industries and 32 countries.
The President of Carnegie, Cliff Goldman, commented that this designation was natural for the company, as the conviction was always held that there was a greater environmental and social responsibility to the community than just profit. He added that the mission of the company has always been the well-being of its clients, employees, and the planet, and that becoming a B Corp is a confirmation of that mission and provides a way to measure the success of the business in these areas against others in many industries.
Carnegie believes that the B Corporation movement will be a way to measure the success of businesses in the future, and that making a difference (as opposed to just profit) will become the new normal.
