Boat launch reopens following lengthy restoration

Nassau County residents will have full season access once again to Freeport's Milburn Creek Boat Basin for the first time since the project began in 2015.

Local business owners in Merrick and surrounding areas might want to stock up on boating-related promotional items and freshen up their Banners and Flyers. An influx of people is expected to arrive in Freeport and the surrounding communities this summer thanks to the completion of the $4 million project. The restoration was performed to improve the appearance and safety of the launch that initially opened in 1963.

The Milburn Creek Boat Basin is part of Milburn Creek Park. The area is expected to draw a lot of people that want to enjoy time out on the water or are interested in spending time strolling and picnicking in the park. New features include additional accessibility for handicapped users and a seating area. The launch area also features fresh pavement and a new walkway. Improvements to the waterfront across the creek in neighboring Baldwin are also underway.

Residential users must pay $25 per day to use the boat launch and commercial boats are charged $175 per day. Commercial users must have liability insurance and all users are required to purchase an additional Nassau County Leisure Pass. Annual boat launch passes are also available. The passes are available from the Nassau County government website.
