A day for basketball may be of interest to fans in Merrick that has been organized in memory of a passionate player in Freeport.
The Eriq Brown Summer Classic is an annual event that will be in his memory, with his love for basketball and the Freeport community carrying on. The funds raised in the tournament will be used for the Eriq Brown Scholarship, which will be given to a Freeport High School student at the end of each year. Tournament organizers hope to raise money for the scholarship through players, donations, and vendors. Good donation items for schools are promotional Pens.
The main focus of the Eriq Brown Summer Classic is a 3-v-3 basketball tourney. Registration is $25 for early birds and $35 at the door. One plate of food will be included in each player’s registration fee, and players will be eligible for a cash prize.
Local businesses will have the opportunity to set up shop as vendors for $55 and take the opportunity to interact with town residents and get the word out about their products and services. Raffles will be going on throughout the afternoon and food for purchase will be available for those in attendance. A DJ will also be on hand to play music.
