The state is investing in a number of Long Island downtowns, and Governor Cuomo’s office announced that Baldwin would be given one of the grants with the aim to utilize key catalytic projects to benefit the community. According to officials, the funds would be used to improve pedestrian connections, incorporate mixed-used transit-oriented development, and support the small business community to develop locations where residents, visitors and commuters will wish to dine, shop, and engage in recreation.
With the help of Print shops, area businesses can adjust their promotional strategies to take advantage of the changes Baldwin will be undergoing, and maximize the potential benefits to them.
According to Laura Curran, a Nassau County Executive:
"It will boost our local economy and allow the Baldwin downtown to finally live up to its potential. Nassau County will continue working with our towns and villages to utilize their streets and open spaces to attract diners and shoppers, and encourage the developing of housing in our downtowns.”
The expected and desired result will be a flourishing mixed-use downtown that is pedestrian-friendly with a Long Island Rail Station at the center. Included will be pioneering green infrastructure components and mixed land use.
