Special exhibit to come to Manhasset area

The exhibit, “EVERY body, EVERY mind, Honoring the 35th Anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act,” will be coming to the Hofstra University Museum of Art in Hempstead in the next few days. The museum is in within easy driving distance of Manhasset.

The exhibition will enable attendees to reflect on and consider the progress the country has made in creating greater accessibility for everyone, as well to understand the barriers in society that still exist.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 and prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in many areas of public life, including transportation, schools, jobs, and many public and private places.

The exhibit includes artwork from the permanent collection of the museum, photographs and documents from the archives of the university, murals by students from a local school that serves students with disabilities, and current artists such as Finnegan Shannon, Jen White-Johnson, and Heidi Latsky, which explore themes of accessibility, justice, and representation.

Poster printing is often used to promote such special exhibits throughout a college campus and surrounding communities.

There will be an opening reception from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 30 with remarks by the director of the Hofstra University Museum of Art, Sasha Giordano, at 5:00 pm. The exhibit runs through Friday, July 11.
