North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) in Manhasset, part of Northwell Health, has joined the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which will enable it to list patients who need lung transplants.
This is part of the final steps needed towards opening the first program for lung transplants within Queens and Long Island, thereby filling an urgent need for those living outside of downtown Manhattan.
The lung transplant program is the latest addition to the capital and clinical investment at the hospital and has received all the necessary regulatory approvals. More information about such programs is often made available to potential patients with brochure printing.
NSUH is the home to the Katz Women’s Hospital, the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital, and provides neurosurgery and multi-organ transplant services. It also has one of the busiest emergency departments in the metropolitan area of New York.
Executive director of NSUH, Jon Sendach, said that lung transplant is the latest specialty of a life-changing nature that the hospital is proud to offer to the community. Sendach added that it will be performed with the best in-class care and sophistication. He said that the reputation of the hospital already makes it a prime destination for complex medical procedures, and the care coordinated and integrated throughout the hospital sets it apart from many other clinics.
