Manhasset student selected for musical contest

A student from Manhasset Secondary School is one of nine semifinalists from around the world in the Irving M. Klein International String Competition for 2021.

Dylan Wu, a cellist, was selected from among 128 students entering the competition from 16 countries. He is one of five string musicians from the United States who will be competing in the semifinalist round. The four other students are William Tan from Illinois, Grace Huh from California, Keoni Bolding from Pennsylvania, and Serin Park from New York City. Wu studies at The Juilliard School Pre-College Division.

The California Music Center produces the competition. Its goal is to enable the top young string musicians in the world to become more prominent in the world of classical music, which is highly competitive.

The competition is usually held in front of a live audience at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. This year’s event will be recorded virtually and streamed on the Violin Channel so that audiences around the world will be able to watch it. Such events can be promoted in various parts of the world with materials created by local Print shops.

The next round will take place on Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6, with the results announced on Sunday. The grand prize is worth about $13,000, which includes performances with the Santa Cruz and Peninsula Symphonies, and Gualala Arts Chamber, and cash.
