The organizers of an upcoming Manhasset event hope that it may just help people develop a greater appreciation of the humble crow, and that it may become recognized as an intelligent and resourceful bird.
The Manhasset Library will be hosting the session, which will be facilitated by a member of the North Shore Audubon Society. During the evening, which has been dubbed ‘A Murder of Crows’, they will be sharing details about how crows communicate and socialize with one another, and even have their own language of calls.
Experiments and other activities that indicate their high level of intelligence, such as how they make and use simple tools, will also be discussed, as will their life cycle, families and flocks, behavior, and role in the ecosystem.
Admission to the event is being offered free of charge, and light refreshments will be served. A printing company can be called upon to produce an assortment of materials that can help to promote an event like this to the public.
A Murder of Crows will be held in the Manhasset Library’s lower level community room, starting at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 24. Anyone who would like to register ahead of time for this information session, or simply find out more, is asked to visit the North Shore Audubon Society’s website for further details.
