A major renovation of the Mineola Community Center will take place as early as next year. This may be of interest to those in nearby Manhasset.
A capital improvement grant of $1.1 million from the state will make this project possible. The project is expected to cost $2.2 million. The rest of the funding for the project will come from the unappropriated funds of the village.
Paul A. Pereira, mayor of Mineola, says that among the renovations will be upgrades to the gymnasium that will include new flooring, a new HVAC system, and new volleyball nets, as well as padding on the walls that will enhance the safety of seniors and youth sports using the facility. Additional renovations will include installation of a permanent projector, modernizing the kitchen, sanding the stage, updating the lighting and sound systems in the center, updating the three classrooms, painting, new windows, and increased storage.
Bryan Rivera, clerk of the village, as well as the mayor, say that the center has not been updated in over 30 years, so these renovations are very much needed.
Flyer printing is one way to inform residents and others that use the facility of such improvements and their benefits for patrons.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall with an expected completion date of mid-2026. Rivera said that the center will work to disrupt ongoing activities as little as possible during construction.
