As the midsummer months approach, many of the residents of Manhasset and other close-lying cities are already making preparations to attend a powwow of epic proportions.
This year, the event is formally titled the 38th Annual Thunderbird American Indian Mid-Summer Powwow.
This particular event is known to be New York’s largest and oldest powwow. The public is invited to come out and witness the three-day dance competitions, which are complete with drumming, chanting, and narration that will take place between more than 40 nations, but that is not all in which the public can participate.
There will also be Native American artwork, jewelry, and crafts for the public to appreciate and purchase. Food vendors will also be onsite. Banners could be used by the vendors to provide direction and advertisement to the masses expected to participate in this event, which will occur rain or shine.
Parking is available for both cars and buses in the parking lot located south of the main gate entrance. The parking is free, and there is even a bike rack that is located just inside of the main gate entrance. Participants need to be aware that there are no ATM machines on site, neither are there lockers for storing personal items.
It will take place July 29 – 31 in the apple orchard at the Queen’s County Farm Museum on Little Neck Parkway.
