Vuzix Corporation has signed a lease in a building next to its headquarters in West Henrietta for space to expand its waveguide production capacity. The company is a leading supplier of augmented reality (AR) technology and smart glasses.
Vuzix will occupy part of the building and has an option to lease the entire building to enable it to further expand in the future. The building is a new ISO 9001 facility and will feature a Class 1000 cleanroom, as well as providing space for the manufacturing and optics equipment needed for the company’s propriety development process of waveguides.
This expansion also makes Vuzix eligible for funds of up to $1m through the Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit program of Empire State Development (ESD) as part of its creation of jobs. Many such jobs as part of the expansion may require business card printing services. ESD is the chief economic development agency of New York State.
President and CEO of Vuzix, Paul Travers, said that the increased demand for waveguides that are custom configured has provided this opportunity for the company to expand its production capabilities right now.
The company has already purchased the waveguide production equipment which is expected to be installed and prepared for production over the next six months. This expansion is expected to increase the annual production of the company during the first half of next year to over one million units.
