Specialty supermarket to come to Henrietta

The Ruby Gordon store on West Henrietta Road in Henrietta will soon become a specialty supermarket.

Plans for Asia Food Market to use the building for a new purpose have been approved by the Henrietta Planning Board. Asia Food Market is currently on Brighton Henrietta Townline Road.

Tin Tin Ren, a spokesperson for the owners of the business, said that the current location will become a warehouse and the retail operations will move to West Henrietta Road.

Joe Ferran and Steve Shultz from MRB Group, an architecture and engineering firm, said that 120 feet from the front of the former Ruby Gordon building will be removed for green space with shrubs, trees, and parking for customers. There will be a new front entrance with sliding glass doors and new façade made of brick. This will make the reconstructed space span 97,000 square feet.

Banner printing can be used at such sites to inform residents of upcoming projects.

Ruby Gordon was founded in 1936 in Rochester; however, the company filed for bankruptcy in December 2023 and closed its Henrietta store and another at The Mall at Greece Ridge. Asia Food Market was founded in 2005 and also has stores in Ithaca, Syracuse, and Buffalo. Hours at the Henrietta store will be from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm daily.

As yet, no timeline has been given as to when the project and subsequent move will take place.
