A state grant of $4.7m from Empire State Development has been awarded to the town of Henrietta to upgrade an electrical substation that will help with economic development and residential projects.

Station 255 in southwest Henrietta will be developed with the capacity to produce more than 50 megawatts of additional capacity that will support growth in the load demand. Adam Bello, County Executive, said that this upgrade will attract new businesses, enable more robust economic development, and improve the quality of life for residents in the county. Jeremy Cooney, state senator, added that the funding will create many opportunities for the town.
Businesses currently planning to either relocate or expand in the county include a research and development company for beverage production, a manufacturer of solar panels, and a semiconductor supply chain company.
Residential development is also expected to grow as a result of this investment. Empire State Development said there are close to 1,000 proposals and opportunities for affordable, family, and senior housing that could become reality with the increased capacity for power generation created by this grant funding.
It is expected that the total cost for the infrastructure upgrades will be about $17m. Work is scheduled to begin sometime this year.
