An amount of $62m will be invested by CooperVision in Rochester to expand its storage technology and Packaging capabilities. More than 170 new jobs are expected to be created from this expansion.
President of CooperVision, Jerry Warner, said that the jobs will include positions in technical packaging, engineering, and manufacturing. Many of such jobs often have a need for business card printing services. Warner said that the company currently employs over 1,000 people in the area in addition to the 12,000 people that work for it around the world. CooperVision, which manufactures soft contact lenses, has a distribution facility in West Henrietta and a manufacturing site in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Warner said that the plans are to upgrade the warehouse management system of the company. He said that the company currently uses autonomous mobile robots and wearable display units. The goal is to improve on the current capabilities so that the company can deliver the best experience for customers. The site in West Henrietta is being updated to be powered completely by renewable energy.
Warner added that the decision to expand in the Rochester area was an easy one. He noted that 80% of the company’s operations are in Rochester and the area has an excellent pool of talent, along with many other elements necessary for a successful operation.
