Murray Hill discovers joys of cut flower gardening

Cut flower fans may be pleased to know they can grow them in their own home garden, and they will walk away from a Murray Hill workshop knowing how to “get growing.”

A class has been scheduled for early April that will introduce the joys of cultivating a bed dedicated to flowers grown for cutting. A registration price is being charged, which includes a materials fee of $20.

The activity is best suited to the gardener with some experience and knowledge, and it will provide tips for choosing plants that provide flowers and foliage that may be used for bouquets and other arrangements. Advice for maintaining bloom time and how to choose bulbs, seeds and plants will be shared, as will ideas for harvesting the blooms and leaves. Caroline Shadood will be its facilitator, and the session is part of the venue’s continuing education efforts.

A workshop on home gardening offers the chance to learn along with others interested in the subject, and educational materials for such activities can be prepared by Stationery printers.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden will welcome those interested in setting up their own cutting garden for this session on for Tuesday, April 7. It will begin at 5:30 pm and wrap up at 8:30 pm, and the registration process can be completed through the Garden’s website.
