Those who want to learn how to survive in the great outdoors are welcome to register now for an upcoming Murray Hill area workshop.
NYC Urban Park Rangers are set to host an Outdoor Skills: Survival 101 walking workshop, scheduled for Lincoln Terrace/Arthur S. Somers Park. It will run for one hour, and all are encouraged to participate.
The organizers of the activity will introduce the attendees to various ways of creating a shelter to protect them from the elements, and tarps and natural materials will be provided for this portion of the gathering. Everyone will learn knots that may be helpful to know in an emergency, and they will also be invited to try their hand at using friction to start a campfire. There will be time to ask questions, and the facilitators, who are well versed in woodland lore, will share stories with the group.
Hands-on learning opportunities may attract a lot of attention, giving those who take part a chance to learn, and gain practice, with new skills. Organizers often choose to order learning materials from local Print shops for such a class or other activity.
The NYC Urban Rangers will be sharing secrets of woodland survival during this outdoors skills session set for Sunday, February 1. It will kick off at 12:00 noon.
