Murray Hill residents who enjoy home horticulture are on the guestlist for an activity that will show how native species can be incorporated into urban plantings.
Even in city spaces, nature finds a way, and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens’ Native Plants for the Urban Environment workshop will introduce species and cultivars that can not only survive, but thrive in this sort of environment. It will run for three hours, and anyone interested will need to sign up in advance.
The session will discuss why choosing native plants is so important, and everyone will learn how they can attract pollinators and other wildlife. Trees, shrubs, perennials, and ground covers will all be on the agenda, and everyone will find out how they can be good choices for a rooftop, school, street, or home planting. Shanti Nagel will serve as the facilitator for the class, and the registration fee starts at $68.
Gardeners may appreciate the chance to learn some new skills at a workshop while meeting others who also share their interest. Copies of handouts for a workshop can be prepared by a brochure printing company.
Brooklyn Botanic Gardens has scheduled this introduction to the benefits of choosing native plants for an urban garden on Thursday, June 4. It will open at 1:00 pm, and anyone wishing to register may do so through its website.
