Sugar Skull Fun Run seeking original artwork for event

Work from professional and amateur artists in New Mexico, regardless of their age, is being sought by Bernalillo County.

The artwork is to be considered for use on face masks, t-shirts, social media, and other promotional materials for Albuquerque's Sugar Skull Fun Run. Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is the requested theme for the artwork, which must be original and created by the artists themselves.

The wide range of items print shops provide, include posters and customized articles of clothing, can promote events and ideas like this.

The artwork being submitted will be two-dimensional illustrations with the acceptable digital formats being TIFF, JPG, and PDF only. The dimensions are to be between 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17. Black and white designs, as well as full color ones, are acceptable.

The entry deadline is Friday at 5:00 pm on June 25. Completed entry forms must be submitted by that date to publicartprogram@bernco.gov. Questions can be directed to Kent Swanson, the coordinator of the Public Art Program, at 505-314-0467. The artist with the winning submission will be awarded $250.

The Sugar Skull Fun Run this year will be held on Sunday, October 24, as both an in-person and virtual event (where registered participants run independently), depending upon public health guidelines at the time.
