New Mexico native nominated for Hall of Fame
Speed-skier Ross Anderson’s name has recently been put forward as one of the contenders for this year’s introduction into the National Ski Hall of Fame.
Anderson broke the all-American speed record for skiing in 2006. He was clocked moving at 154.06 miles per hour to become the first Native American to hold the record in the sport.
Speed-skiing is not dissimilar to drag racing except that it involves going down a mountain. Anderson believes his success is down to his strong connection to the geography of the Earth and its mountains. He also adds:
No longer as active on the mountains as he used to be, Anderson now spends his time at one of Albuquerque’s local ski stores where he tunes skates and teaches the next generation of skiers about his favorite sport, encouraging them to follow their dreams no matter what and reminding them that it will be worth it in the end. Banner printing is a common feature at local stores.
The final decision on whether Anderson has made it into the hall of fame will be made in June.

“When you’re going down that fast, you’re so mentally focused that everything in front of you is in slow motion. It’s pretty neat that I got nominated to be in the National Ski Hall of fame.”
