What's Happening in Albuquerque, NM…

Long-running sci-fi and fantasy convention coming up in Albuquerque

Bubonicon will be held again this year in Albuquerque at the Marriott Uptown on Louisiana boulevard northeast. Now in its 51st year, this event will take place over the course of the weekend, and will feature live panels, special guests, and costumes.

This year’s costume contest is expected to be a highlight of the convention, and will be held on Saturday night. Anyone with a badge can enter, and entries can be original or based on a pre-existing character. Awards will be given out in four categories: youth (for those 13 or under), novice (for beginners to costuming), journeyman (for those with more experience), and master (for those who have won awards already or feel able to compete at this level).

There will be a number of vendors at this event, and will have booths set up. Vendors will range from independent comic books to publishers to art to housewares. Many of these will have geeky themes, and no doubt quirky business cards on hand.

Panels and workshops will be held throughout the weekend on a wide variety of topics. Special guests will also be at these panels. Many of these panels are space-themed or otherwise centered on sci-fi and fantasy. There will also be activities for adventurers of all ages, including afternoon tea and a droid hunt.

This convention will also likely use banner printing, to help guide guests through the hotel to the different areas and venues. Times for activities will vary throughout the weekend, but the convention will open on Friday, August 23 and close on Sunday, August 25.
