Cowboys coming to Albuquerque

The rodeo circuit is making a stop in Albuquerque this fall.

The event consists of many rodeo disciplines. In bareback riding, riders grip a bucking horse with their leather rigging to display their strength and stability. Steer wrestling, also known as bulldogging, is where a cowboy hops from his horse onto a running steer to wrestle it down.

Team roping, on the other hand, is a contest where two riders cooperate. One rider, called the header, has to rope the steer's horns while another rider known as the heeler, will rope its hind legs. Saddle bronc riding is an old kind of rodeo event that needs riders to stay on a horse that bucks for eight seconds using special saddles. Scoring is based on the rider’s style and control.

Cowboys engaged in tie-down roping must use their rope to capture a running calf, then jump off their horse and bind three of the animal's legs together. This action must be done within a specific time frame. Barrel racing, an activity often dominated by female riders, demands horses to navigate around a set of barrels in the form of a cloverleaf pattern. Bull riding is commonly seen as one of the most thrilling elements at such rodeos.

Attendees can buy tickets for the Chevron PRCA Rodeo from the New Mexico State Fair’s official website or at the venue's box office. Print shops can be used to get physical copies of tickets.

The Chevron PRCA Rodeo will be held at the EXPO New Mexico in Albuquerque on September 11th.
