Northvale residents have succeeded in to bring their library back, following its closure in 2011.
More than a third of people in Northvale signed a petition earlier this year to put the question of reopening the library on the November ballot. Now, they have voted to approve the measure.
The success of the vote means that the library will once again become a part of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS). An unofficial tally of voters reveals the measure passed 618 to 538. This is a turnaround from a vote in 2011, when a $500,000 referendum, of which half would have gone to the library, failed.
The current referendum asked Northvale residents if they would be willing to support the library at over $300,000 per year, as compared with the current funding level of about $40,000 yearly. Currently, the library is open on a limited basis, eight hours a week, with volunteer staff.
The passage of this measure ensures that Northvale will be able to hire permanent personnel to run the facility. It also means that library members will have access to Books, DVDs, and other media from libraries throughout the BCCLS.
Library officials could work with a postcard printing company to create a card for Mailing to Northvale residents when the library reopens, giving the hours and days of operation.Get a Free Quote for Mailing Get a Free Quote for Books
