Bergen LEADS is now accepting applications for its leadership development program this spring.
The program is designed to help participants discover civic engagement opportunities, become more aware of their own leadership and communication styles, and build long-term connections with other local leaders. Participants often exchange Business Cards to share contact information at the beginning of this type of program. Sessions include both professional development and an inside look at Bergen County infrastructure.
Bergen LEADS runs from September 2026 through June 2027 and includes six full-day sessions and a graduation ceremony. The sessions include site visits to local institutions, such as government, education, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations, as well as activities designed to develop participants’ leadership skills. Participants will receive training in public speaking, executive-level time management, strategic communication, and effective networking.
The program is intended for those who live or work in Bergen County, including Northvale and any other towns in the county. The application includes several short-answer questions and asks for confirmation that the applicant understands the commitment involved. There is a $3,000 fee for participants, which will be payable in three installments, although some local employers will sponsor participation. LEADS participants are required to attend all sessions and remain involved with Bergen Volunteers in some capacity after completing the program.
Applications for Bergen LEADS are available on the Bergen Volunteers website and are due on Wednesday, April 15.
