Northvale woman to head Bergen Regional Medical Center

Care Plus Bergen, a non-profit organization comprised of Integrity House and Care Plus NJ, is the entity that runs the Bergen Regional Medical Center. Now, Care Plus Bergen is getting a new CEO, which means the medical center has the same new CEO: Deborah Visconi, a Northvale resident for 23 years.

Bergen Regional is one of the biggest public hospitals in the country, and it is a facility in transition. Visconi will be taking over as the hospital starts expanding its services and treatments, specifically focusing on combating the crisis in opioid use. It intends to extend treatment measures beyond a period of detoxification.

The entities that form Care Plus Bergen chose Visconi early in July. She is coming to Bergen from Morristown Medical Center, and before that, New York City's Mount Sinai Beth Israel, where she served for over 19 years.

Visconi says it has been her life's mission to serve the communities that most need access and care, and it's the height of her career to be able to do so virtually in her own backyard. Bergen Regional often treats under-insured and uninsured patients, and discharges over 6,000 people annually.

Visconi will assume her duties on October 1, 2017.

Transitions are often difficult, but management can help ease anxiety by working with a newsletter printing company to create a letter for both employees and area residents, discussing policies and personnel changes.
