Northvale students join others in Frisbee championships

This year, the Northern Valley Coalition created a Frisbee team for the first time and, despite being only a few weeks old, it competed in the state championships held in late May.

The Coalition, a community-based grassroots group of individuals, is working to promote and provide a substance-free, safe environment for families and youth. According to the organization's website, its members come from Northvale and six other communities: Old Tappan, Norwood, Haworth, Harrington Park, Demarest, and Closter.

According to an article in the Northern Valley Daily Voice, the Northern Valley Coalition Ultimate Frisbee team went to Mercer County Community College, where it competed in the 2016 NJ Division 2 High School Boys State Championship.

The team ended its short season with one of the best records in New Jersey, despite its inexperience, and the team already plans to compete in several tournaments in 2017, with the aim of qualifying for Division 1.

Anthony Corona, the team's volunteer coach, said his aim was to assist the boys into developing into a skilled, athletic, and cohesive unit, and at the same time embodying what he called the “essence of Ultimate”, which is known as the “Spirit of the Game.”

Flyer printing companies can create pieces that provide information about locations of the games, team members, parking, and start times, to those who would like to attend the events.
