Northvale shows support for its police force

A stretch of Paris Avenue in front of Northvale's Borough Hall now has a thin blue line on the pavement, according to an article on NorthJersey.com.

The line symbolizes the city's support of its police. Ed Piehler, Northvale's mayor, said he got the idea after reading about another New Jersey community that had done the same thing.

Piehler contacted other city officials, as well as the police chief, about the idea, and everyone agreed that painting the street was a positive method of showing the community's support for the police department.

Councilman Peter Sotiropolous called it a “great idea”, adding that he and others became aware that other towns were taking this action, and wanted Northvale to show it also appreciates its law enforcement officers.

Piehler says he and others in the borough interact with police daily and understand that law enforcement is a stressful profession. He also noted that police officers are themselves residents who live in Northvale, whose children go to school there, and who know many of the same people.

For his part, William Essmann, the police chief, says he has always felt “tremendous support for the Police Department” from residents over the years, and is very pleased by the blue line, as it is a public declaration of the regard in which people hold the department.

Communities like these can benefit by working with booklet printing companies, which can create items to memorialize special occasions.
