Northvale library holds reading challenge

This month has seen the Northvale Public Library seek to engage readers of all ages by launching a reading challenge, dubbed WinterRead 2021.

WinterRead encourages all participants to read at least 10 Books during the month of January. Readers can decide what they read and what they count as a book for these purposes, meaning that the list could include audiobooks, graphic novels and picture books for younger readers. Those who complete the challenge will receive a certificate. The challenge is sponsored by the Friends of Northvale Library organization, and is the latest in a series of similar challenges sponsored by the Library throughout the year.

Participants can log their reading through the library’s website or the free Beanstack Tracker app. Readers will be sorted by age, with categories for toddlers, elementary school, middle and high school, and adults, with the most prolific winning prizes. While the library is presently closed, it has been carrying out its reading and education programming through digital streams. In particular, Northvale has been nationally recognized for its streaming children’s programming, including a weekly storytime stream and providing pick-up craft kits.

Modern library programs, often advertised through tools like brochure printing, include everything from book clubs, to sewing circles, to English as a second language lessons.

The Northvale Library’s reading challenge runs until January 31, with books tracked online.
