The session is presented by the Youth Sports Research Council, which is associated with Rutgers University, along with the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association. State law requires volunteering coaches to attend what it calls a:
“safety orientation and training skills” program
This then means they are eligible for the civil immunity protection afforded by the “Little League Law.”
The topics to be covered include the general concepts of coaching; the first aid and medical aspects of coaching; the legal aspects of coaching as well as its psychological dimensions; and the condition and training of athletes.
Those who attend the meeting will receive a card certifying that they attended as well as a copy of the fourth edition of “The Coaches Reference Manual.” In addition, they will be permanently registered with Rutgers YSRC.
The meeting takes place tomorrow, January 24, 2017, beginning at 6.30 pm and running until 9.30 pm. The location is the Borough Hall of Northvale on Paris Avenue, and attendees are asked to arrive early in order to have time to register. Latecomers will not be admitted; the cost is $35.
Programs like this can benefit if organizers work with a flyer printing company, which can create a handout that lists not only the items to be discussed, but the program in general.
