A bakery in Northvale recently had the honor of being been named one of the three best bakeries in New Jersey.

For the third year, Dawn Foods held its Sweetest Bakeries in America contest, in which people across the country voted for their favorite cupcake shops, cake shops, bakeries, and doughnut shops. The contest ran for several months, from July through the end of September, with the winners revealed in October.

In New Jersey, the favorites were Crust N Krumbs Bakery, located in Vineland; Ridgefield Park's Baked Meringue; and D'Ercole Donuts, of Northvale. The donut shop's name is pronounced “dee-ehr-coh-lay,” and one of its signature dishes is its apple cider doughnuts.

D'Ercole is family-owned, prides itself on being peanut- and tree nut-free, and offers only donuts and bakery items. Cake donuts come in flavors such as Boston cream, cinnamon caramel, and caramel apple. They also offer devil's food cake donuts in flavors that include death by chocolate, chocolate cupcake, chocolate sprinkles, and chocolate pretzel.

The bakery has special donuts for various seasons and occasions, such as pumpkin-glazed and shark week. Finally, there are also few bakery selections including apple turnovers and fritters, and a coffee roll, all of which no doubt helped secure the victory.
