Columbia University’s Climate School Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory is hosting its final Science Saturday of the season this September.
Science Saturdays are a summer program intended to teach attendees about science in a fun, natural, outdoor setting. The program is family-friendly and appropriate for children of all ages. Attendees can find the Science Saturday team under the white tent at the end of Piermont Pier, on the northern side. Specific activities will vary, but attendees can expect to learn about topics like water chemistry and fish identification while participating in activities like a Hudson River puzzle and other river-based games. These activities are designed to allow participants to benefit from the observatory’s location on the Hudson River.
The event is free to attend, and participants do not need to register in advance. Educational institutions often give out promotional Pens at public events. The Lamont-Doherty Observatory was founded in 1949 and is currently staffed by 500 scientists and students who perform climate and earth science research. This has included achievements like developing a computer model to predict specific weather patterns. The facility overlooks the Hudson River in Palisades, New York, which is near New Jersey towns like Northvale.
The final Science Saturday of the summer will take place on Saturday, September 3, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, on Piermont Pier.
