Northvale area lake to host Paddle Day

New Jersey’s Lake Tappan will be welcoming families and lovers of the outdoors to its shores with a special Paddle Day event.

Paddle Day is a collaboration between Hackensack Riverkeeper and SUEZ Water, which provides kayaks and canoes for individuals, pairs, or groups. The day will be divided into three two-hour sessions for rented boats, and will be open throughout the afternoon for those bringing their own vessels.

The event is designed to expose nature lovers, particularly children and families from nearby areas like Northvale and Hackensack, to the lake setting. Outdoor events like this, typically promoted through methods like roadside Signs and banner printing, are popular summer attractions.

The event will include a lunch provided by the Inserra ShopRite. Catch-and-release fishing from kayaks will also be allowed for those with a license. Social distancing rules will be in place while on land, while equipment such as life Vests will be handed out for those renting boats. Hackensack Riverkeeper promotes numerous events to raise awareness of New Jersey’s waters and the need for conserving them, including fishing days, river clean-ups, and eco-cruises. The group also provides an annual scholarship for New Jersey students who have contributed to environmental conservation.

It will be held at the Lake Tappan Reservoir in Old Tappan on the morning and afternoon of June 5.
