The American Dream mega-mall being built in Meadowlands has apparently landed another tenant, as it was recently announced that Nickelodeon Universe will build an indoor theme park there.
There is already another Nickelodeon Universe in a mall—in the Mall of America in Minnesota, near the Twin Cities. That mall is the nation's biggest, and approximately 40 million people go to see it every year. The Minnesota Nickelodeon Universe covers seven acres, but the one planned for New Jersey will be even larger—eight acres. It's sure to draw visitors from around the area, including Northvale. Tenants of malls like this have a chance to create new Business Cards to reflect their new locations.
The American Dream version of Nickelodeon University will have the same number of rides as the Minnesota mall, 27. However, it will also have a game theater, a play structure for children, and a ropes course. In addition, it's adding a number of roller coasters, some of which have been modeled on those already in use at the Mall of America.
Among these are the "SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge," which will be reworked as the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Shellraiser”. At its highest point it will reach 142 feet; its steepest hill is inclined 120 degrees; and its highest speed is 62 mph. When it opens, it will be the world's steepest coaster. Other coasters will also be transformed.
The new mall and its Nickelodeon Universe park is expected to open sometime this spring.
