Alt-country duo coming to Northvale area

An up-and-coming husband-and-wife musical team is on the way to the Northvale region, bringing their unique sound to new audiences.

Shovels & Rope is Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, who started collaborating on what they expected would be their only album, “Shovels & Rope,” which they worked on in 2008. However, they discovered that both their personal and musical chemistry were extraordinary, and they were married the following year.

In 2012, under the name Shovels & Rope, they released their second album, “O' Be Joyful,” a country folk effort that went to the top of the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart. It also won them the 2013 Americana Music Honors & Award's “Emerging Artist of the Year” honor.

Their singing style has been described as incorporating country with folk, rock, and even some punk into a sound of their own. They demonstrate close, two-part harmony on anthemic songs like “The Devil Is All Around” and “Birmingham.” Poster printing can provide effective advertising for events like this.

Reviews of the duo have been enthusiastic, using words like “amazing” and “fantastic.” One review said:

“Shovels and Rope is an amazing band and the best kept secret in music. Go see them, their live performances are even better than their recordings. Their talent and energy are unsurpassed.”

Shovels and Rope will be at the Tarrytown Music Hall, in Tarrytown, New York, a short drive from Northvale, on January 17 at 7:00 pm.
