Timber building adds to growth of downtown Newark

Lotus Equity Group recently unveiled plans to construct a timber building that will be the largest in the country on the old Bears Riverfront Stadium in Newark.

This commercial office building will be 11 stories in height and will be the anchor for Riverfront Square, a mixed-use development project 11.8 acres in size being considered for the Broad Street corridor of downtown Newark. It is also under 500 feet from the Broad Street station of the New Jersey Transit and next to the waterfront.

There will be small- and large-scale retail spaces, a hotel, cultural and public open space, two million square feet of office space, and 2,000 residential units in Riverfront Square, as well as parking spaces for all these uses. A 500,000 square-foot building for office space will be the first commercial building in the project.

There are many environmental advantages to buildings constructed of timber. Ben Korman, CEO and Founder of Lotus Equity Group, added that being able to construct the largest timber in the country in Newark demonstrates the company’s confidence in the city, and in the specific location of Riverfront Square as location up there with the very best in the world.
