A Community Project Funding grant of $1 million has been given to United Community Corporation (UCC) in Newark. This is a major milestone for education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for the younger generation of the city.
These funds will enable the launching of the new Youth STEM Innovation and Exploration Program of UCC. This is a summer and after school enrichment initiative designed to provide hands-on access for students of Newark to learning tools of the 21st century with artificial intelligence (AI) as a central focus.
News of such awards and their benefits for young people can be made known throughout a city with flyer printing.
UCC has been the designated Community Action Agency in Newark for the past 60 years, designed to move residents from being dependent to self-sufficient. Craig Mainor, Executive Director of the agency, said that the STEM initiative is an extension of thar mission and will equip the youth of the city with the STEM skills needed for long-term economic stability.
Mainor added that these funds are very much needed. He said that AI will be used to ensure they have a comprehensive learning experience with that technology and it will be a primary component of the program. The program will provide hands-on STEM experiences that will enable students to explore coding, robotics, and projects based on innovation as well as engineering principles to expand on the construction training programs.
