Special career and college prep program funded for Newark students

The NCLC has extended the College Pathway Initiative that is held during the regular school year to offer this five-week program over the summer.

The Newark City of Learning Collaborative (NCLC) was recently awarded $25,000 by Barclays for a summer career and college preparatory program for high school students in the city and this funding has made the extension possible.

Announcements of such awards can be made known to the school community through poster printing services.

This career and college preparatory program integrates the arts and social justice, community service, and writing skills and are made available to 50 rising high school juniors and seniors.

Executive Director of the NCLC, Reginald Lewis, commented that this Summer Leadership Institute which is sponsored by Barclays is an ideal opportunity for these students to be involved in early preparation for careers and college and to make good use of their months. Lewis expressed his gratitude to Barclays for making this program available to the youth of Newark.

Barclays, a multinational financial services company and bank, also hosted students in Whippany, New Jersey at their corporate headquarters where they provided tips on professional networking, shared personal career stories, and held mock interviews for the students.

The College Pathway Initiative started recruiting 10th graders from Newark in 2017. The program works with them through their senior year and facilitates the transition to college.
