Solo cellist to highlight February concerts

At the end of month, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will be presenting a program of works inspired by landscapes and vistas in both Englewood and Newark.

Associate Principal Cello of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Stephen Fang, will be giving a solo performance of Dvořák’s ‘Silent Woods’ and Popper’s ‘Hungarian Rhapsody’. The program also includes Copland’s ‘Appalachian Spring’ and Dvořák’s ‘New World Symphony’, meaning that music of Czech, Hungarian and American origin will be heard. The conductor for the program is Miguel Harth-Bedoya.

According to Jacques Lacombe, Music Director, there is a positive energy in the Orchestra when Fang plays. Lacombe believes that not only is Fang a great musician, but he is also very expressive when he plays and so is enjoyable to watch.

At all of its performances, in order to benefit food banks in the state, the orchestra will accept nonperishable food donations. It may add this request to any Flyers it prints to announce the concerts and potentially attract more people to these special performances.

The first performance will take place on February 25, at 7:30 pm in Englewood, and it will be followed by shows at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on February 27 at 8:00 pm and February 28 at 3:00 pm. After the last concert, Fang will have an artist talkback with the audience.
