A new 14-story apartment building with 234 units is planned in University Heights in Newark at the site of a used car dealership.
The building will be at the corner of Norfolk Street and Central Avenue with an entrance on Central Street. An architect from the firm , Ciaren Kelly, said that at the 70-foot mark, the building will be stepped back along Norfolk Street to make the building appear less intrusive. It will also have a blue roof so that water can be collected to support plantings. The base of the building will have seating, lamps, some dining tables and chairs, and grills as well as lots of vegetation and plants.
Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such buildings and their amenities to attract people to live in downtown areas.
The attorney for the developer Norfolk Member LLC, Jennifer Carrillo-Perez, said that the building will have 47 affordable housing units as well as 2,000 square feet of commercial and retail space and 97 parking space off-street. There will also be 26 apartments with two bedrooms, 103 apartments with one bedroom and 105 studios.
The developer will be working with the city arborist to plant as many trees as possible around the building to address some concerns about high rise buildings causing additional heat in the area.
There is no timeline set for the construction of the building.
