A new comfort station is now open in Newark at Ivy Hill Park.
This project was designed to modernize recreation facilities and has two handicapped accessible bathrooms and for use by all genders. The comfort station is next to the Mike Sheppard Sr. Softball Field. Those at the softball field will no longer need to walk to the side of the park along Mt. Vernon Place to access restroom facilities.
Additional updates included renovations to the dugout at Sheppard Field, landscaping planted around the field and the building, and LED fixtures installed on the light poles.
More information about such projects and their benefits for the community is often made known with flyer printing.
The new building was designed by French and Parrello from Wall. Their contract was $99,500. The contract to build the station was awarded to Cedra Grove Based Grove Contracting and was $1,076,525. Grants from the American Rescue Program and the Essex County Recreation and Open Space Trust Fund were also used to fund the project.
Bryan Fell, director of athletics and recreation at Seton Hall University, said the upgrades are a great enhancement. Angela Churchill, softball coach agreed with this comment and added that this has been a tremendous improvement for not only those who come to the park but for the softball team as well.
