The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will be awarding an amount of just over $23 million to the city of Newark to enable it to modernize and rehabilitate more of its old housing projects for seniors and families.
These funds are part of a package of $84 million secured by the United States senators from the state for 43 communities in New Jersey. Local printing services are often called upon to announce the availability of such funds to the community.
In a statement, Senator Bob Menendez said that these funds will provide safe housing for many residents of the city and the state. He said these funds will enable repairs of a large scale and energy-efficiency upgrades to be made, as well as the ability to modernize public housing properties, which will help to improve the lives of residents of the city and state at a time when the costs for housing are rising significantly.
Senator Cory Booker said that these funds are essential so that the public housing authorities in New Jersey can serve local people and provide them stable and safe housing.
The two senators also secured an additional $2 million from the Healthy Home grant program of HUD for Newark to enable children to be better protected from health hazards in the home, such as allergens, pesticides, carbon monoxide, and mold.
